Committees Are the Heart of the MCA
MCA's permanent Committees are organized along the lines of major issues affecting the quality of life in the McLean area. The effectiveness of the Committees is based on the combined expertise of active members--all volunteer MCA Members--who research the issues, hammer out an MCA position, and follow up by advocating for our recommendations with elected local officials, Fairfax County and FCPS staff, and even Commonwealth or Federal authorities on some issues. If you want to make a difference in government policy that affects McLean, the place to do so is in an MCA Committee.
Contact the Chair, Co-Chair or Vice-Chair of a Committee that deals with an issue you know or just care about. Tell him or her about your interests or possible contributions of expertise and/or time, and arrange to sit in on their next Committee meeting. If this seems like a good place for you to get involved, advise the Chair you'd like to join and be added to the Committee Roster. If possible before the next meeting, briefly look over the MCA ByLaws and the Policy and Procedures Manual to understand how MCA Committees operate; also consider looking through the resources on the Committee's Web page--the Committee's Documents folder and Forum discussions. And thanks for helping to keep the MCA an effective advocate for the greater McLean community!
